Please join us in welcoming four new Book Buddies therapy teams: Missy and Koda, Patti and Maximus, Terrie and Lily, and Tami and Darby. We'll introduce you to Missy and Koda first, and then the others in the following e-newsletters.
Here are some fun facts about Koda!
Age: 3 years old
Type of Dog: Golden Retriever/Yellow Labrador mix
History: Koda had a career change before becoming a part of Missy's life and a Book Buddy! Since puppyhood, Koda was being trained as a guide dog through Leader Dogs for the Blind and almost graduated from the program, except he had an unbreakable habit. Koda was a little too fond of counter-surfing! Koda's failure was Missy's gain. She learned about Koda's dismissal from his training and added him to her family.
Animal sibling: Kevin, also a therapy dog
Favorite treat: Cucumbers
Favorite trick: Down. Koda has flying downs!
Favorite activity: Play! Koda will play with all dogs and kids.
Favorite season: Winter
Special skill: Koda will take other dogs for walks, by grabbing hold of their leashes.
Favorite way to relax: Upside down
Favorite book genre: Any books on cowboys
Nickname: Corn Dog
Guinea Pig Recipe
We are delighted to share with you a poem written by Rosa, a young reader who attends our Book Buddies reading program.
Guinea Pig Recipe
Dried up food
Lots of Love
A Dash of Kindness
A little bit of braveness
Two names - like Scooter and Chewy
And beautiful guinea pigs to care for
After reading books to Book Buddy Lenny the Guinea Pig, Rosa was inspired to add two guinea pigs to her family. Says Jessica, her mother: "The opportunity that Rosa gets to interact with the dogs (and Lenny!) at Guardian Whiskers every month has sparked and encouraged Rosa's interest in animals and creativity."
