Lay Lay shares a book with Opal at a recent Book Buddies reading program
Book Buddies Reading Sessions, from the perspective of Opal!
Opal is a canine Book Buddy with Guardian Whiskers since November 2021. Her person, Lauren Severson, captured Opal's perspective at a recent Book Buddies reading program.
This morning my mom woke me up so early. I usually like to sleep in, but she told me today was a Book Buddies day! Suddenly, sleep wasn’t so important because I couldn’t wait to hear the stories my book buddies would share with me today!
Before we went to book buddies my mom and I went for a nice long walk so I would be a good listener for all of my buddies. I love going on long walks, especially now that it’s summertime. The sun was shining and there were all sorts of new smells all around me.
After we walked around for a while, I could see City Dog Vet up ahead. I couldn’t wait to get inside and get to my favorite spot. I love to lay on the big fluffy beanbag. It’s SO comfy.
Finally, my first book buddy arrived. I walked to the door to greet him and had to sniff all his little fingers to find out what he ate for breakfast. Then we sat down to read. I was so excited to hear him read a story about a dog who was a soldier in a war. I could not believe how brave that dog was! The story was intense, but my book buddy’s voice was calm and relaxing and he gave me nice pets between chapters. I didn’t want our time to end!
My next book buddy has read to me before and I was so excited to see her again. I greeted her and wagged my tail to show her I was happy she was back. I couldn’t wait to hear more of her book “Because of Winn Dixie.” Winn Dixie is a good dog but he sure gets into a lot of mischiefs! It’s so funny.
And guess what? The main character's name is Opal! Just like mine. As my book buddy read about Winn Dixie’s adventures with Opal, she pets my head and I was sooo relaxed I wanted it to go on forever.
But our time was up, so I guess I’ll have to wait until next time!! Saturday, July 9th can’t come soon enough!
