Meet Our Newest Book Buddies Volunteer, Christy Bockheim!
You may see a new face when you arrive for the Book Buddies reading program!
Christy joins us as our new volunteer Book Buddies Program Coordinator (and as a new board member!). She helps us facilitate the reading program from behind the counter. A huge animal lover, Christy has always enjoyed the company of animals, especially dogs. Her first pet was Peppy, her family’s dog when she was growing up. Christy says that Peppy was very sweet and loved being with the family. As a dogsitter, Christy gets to enjoy the company of many dogs! Reading is also one of Christy’s favorite things to do. Her favorite book as a child was Dandelion Wine , written by Ray Bradbury, which she feels is very different from his other books.
Christy is excited to join us at Guardian Whiskers! She is pictured here with Tupelo, one of our canine Book Buddies, who can get very relaxed at the Book Buddies reading program. “The Book Buddies reading program offers a great chance to practice reading in a low-pressure environment,” says Christy. “In my childhood, I struggled with shyness. Being able to practice reading without someone looking over your shoulder is perfect for kids who also face shyness.” Christy’s perfect reading moment now would be in a hammock on a beach with a stack of 5-6 books!
Please say Hello! and welcome Christy when you see her!
