It’s with sadness we share with you the news that Lenny the Guinea Pig peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 7. In his old age, he had developed lung cancer. We are not sure exactly how old Lenny was. He was adopted from the humane society in May 2021 after a Good Samaritan found him in a Madison park, with paralyzed rear legs! After being fed fresh vegetables at the humane society, Lenny regained the use of his legs – and soon found a home with GW Executive Director Michelle Livanos. Lenny was a happy fellow. He loved basil, bell peppers, and his treat boxes (see below). Being a Book Buddy brought him a lot of joy. |

| A FUN TIP for HAPPY Guinea Pigs, and other pets! In honor of Lenny, we’d like to share one of his most favorite toys, a puzzle box! It is simple to make. Take a small cardboard box typically used for skin products and with a sharp scissor, cut holes in random sizes on three sides. Fill the puzzle box with appropriate treats (Oxbow makes healthy treats for critters) and present the box to your guinea pig. Lenny had a lot of fun with puzzle boxes. He had developed a technique! Puzzle boxes are great fun for other pets, too. Do you have an animal (pet or wildlife) tip to share? Send it to hello@guardianwhiskers.org ! Animals bring us joy – let’s make them happy, too! |
