Did you know that over 300 million birds are killed every year in the U.S. from striking windows? Windows reflect the sky, foliage, and the birds themselves, unfortunately deceiving them. There are simple solutions, including applying window decals and drawing creative designs with soap on the outside of your windows. More info and ideas can be found here .
If you hear the dreaded thud and a bird has struck your window, it is imperative to collect the bird, even if it looks healthy, and take it to your local wildlife rehabilitation center. It could have internal injuries that might be its demise. Gently cover the bird from behind with your hands to scoop up, place the bird in a cardboard box filled with paper towels, and securely close the box. Do not feed or water the bird. Keep in a dark, warm place until you can transport the bird to a nearby rehabber.
